Flossing might seem like a tricky task, but it’s easier than you might think, so please don’t forgo flossing your smile at least once a day. Flossing is vital for your oral health, especially because it helps you prevent major dental issues. To help you properly floss your smile each day, Dr. Daniel Wood has some instructions for you.

The first thing you need to do is get 18 inches of floss out of the dental floss container. Then, wrap the strand around your preferred finger on each hand. Most people like to wrap it around the middle finger. Next, use your index fingers to guide the floss.

Now, send the floss between two teeth. Do so gently because forcing it can harm the gums. Then, scrape the sides of the teeth with the floss. This will remove the plaque and excess food particles that cling to your chompers. Next, send the floss along the gumline to remove particles from the roots of the teeth and gum pockets.

Repeat these steps as you move from tooth to tooth. It’s also important to use a clean section of the strand as you do so.
